dragonage

'...' dubbed the Hissing Wastes Chanter, the entity appears to be a benevolent spirit of the Fade embodied in human form.

Background

The being is encountered wandering alone in the vast sands of the Hissing Wastes. She appears as a Chanter and speaks only in the Chant of Light. The spirit will appear in areas, according to companion dialogue, that "should be impossible for her to have reached so quickly" when traveling from her previous location.

A few days ago, I turned from a statue to find a human woman staring at me. She didn't react when I screamed, or when I ran around picking up my dropped notes. When I asked who she was and how long she'd been standing there, she quoted some verses of the Chant at me, polite as you please.

I offered her some water, but she shook her head, pointed to the east, and said "Blessed are those with fortitude, for they persevere in the name of the Maker." When I glanced back, she was gone. The poor woman must be touched. She seemed harmless, but I don't know how she gets around so quickly in this heat.

Involvement

Each time the Inquisitor encounters the Chanter, she will utter various lines of the chant and then abruptly stop. When the Chanter is stumbled upon for the fourth time, she will abandon her physical form and reveal herself as a benevolent spirit. If Solas is in the party, he will comment, "Ah, of course," but provides no further explanation.

Dialogue

Note: Only one companion will speak in reaction to a line spoken by the Chanter. The responses however may be mixed and/or matched when the Chanter is encountered a second time. The first encounter will have extra dialogue for rogues while the second and third encounters have additional responses by warriors and mages respectively. Solas and Iron Bull do not appear to have responses to the first line of dialog and Cole will never respond to the last. The party member that responds to the Chanter appears to be completely random.
