Lady Seryl of Jader is an Orlesian noblewoman and the ruler of Jader, a strategic port city on the coast of the Waking Sea. She is a steadfast loyalist to Empress Celene Valmont I.

Background

As the governing lady of Jader, Seryl manages the primary gateway between Orlais and Ferelden. Her city is culturally significant as one of the sites claiming to be the birthplace of the prophet Andraste.

During her tenure, she established a close working relationship with Mother Giselle, who served as the Revered Mother of Jader's Chantry. Together, they addressed the humanitarian crises—including famine and disease—caused by the influx of Fereldan refugees following the Fifth Blight. Lady Seryl worked closely with Mother Giselle, then the Revered Mother of Jader’s Chantry.

During the aftermath of the Fifth Blight, Jader was overwhelmed by Fereldan refugees, leading to famine and disease. While the Chantry in Val Royeaux demanded food be distributed based on social hierarchy, Mother Giselle refused and, with Seryl’s backing, provided relief to all in need regardless of race or status.

Seryl ordered the destruction of villages surrounding Jader. This tactic was designed to deny Gaspard's troops shelter (billeting) and intimidate local peasants into withholding support from the rebels.

She utilized "scorched earth" tactics to protect Empress Celene's interests, ordering the destruction of villages where Grand Duke Gaspard's troops might seek shelter to deter local peasants from aiding the rebellion.

After being ambushed at Halamshiral, Celene and Ser Michel de Chevin initially attempted to flee to Jader, trusting Seryl to provide a secure base to rally their forces. However, Gaspard's scouts blocked the western highway, forcing the Empress to divert to Val Royeaux.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Lady Seryl acts as a bridge for the Inquisition’s influence in the Orlesian port city of Jader. Shortly after the Inquisition establishes itself at Skyhold, Chantry loyalists in Jader begin spreading rumors that the Inquisitor was responsible for the death of Divine Justinia V.

While the operation focuses on silencing these rumors through the Inquisitor's advisors, it occurs within Seryl's jurisdiction, maintaining Jader as a stable loyalist stronghold for the Inquisition's cause.

Seryl's supply of trebuchets and heavy machinery allows the Inquisition to breach the gates and occupy the Wardens, providing the Inquisitor with a clear path to confront Warden-Commander Clarel de Chanson and the magister Livius Erimond. As the Inquisition prepares to assault the ancient Grey Warden fortress of Adamant in the Western Approach, Lady Seryl provides the necessary modern siege equipment.
