Ico spellpower

Spellpower is the mage's critical secondary attribute, and is equal to 10 less than the caster's magic attribute (with a minimum of zero). It affects the effectiveness of all spells and shapeshifting forms of the mage. Spellpower is not used by rogues or warriors for their talents (with some exceptions), but they use a similar system based on their other attributes, e.g. many rogue abilities are affected by cunning-10. For all classes, their spellpower increases the effectiveness of health and mana potions.

Mechanics

Mages benefit from spellpower directly and indirectly: spellpower increases the magnitude and duration of spells and also helps overcome the mental or physical resistance of those affected. As a rule of thumb, most spells increase impact by about three to six points for every ten points of spellpower, although some follow a different formula. There are also a few spells unaffected by it.

Common Formulas

Type Description Example formula Power = 10 / 50
Proportional Impact grows directly with spellpower; double power has double impact.
Note: Some spells also have a minimum and/or maximum.
Flaming Weapons:
Fire damage = 0.13 * [spellpower]
(up to a maximum of 10)
1.3 = 0.13 * 10
6.5 = 0.13 * 50
Linear Each point has same incremental effect; double power equals double impact.
Note: This is the most common formula type.
Arcane Bolt:
Spirit damage = 30 + 0.3 * [spellpower]
33 = 30 + 0.3 * 10
45 = 30 + 0.3 * 50
Fixed power Impact remains the same; spellpower has no direct effect. Petrify lasts 20s Duration: 20s
